Porn Is Involved in Child-on-Child Assaults, Report Shows

Pornography is being used by children in assaults of other children, according to the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) coordinator at prominent pediatric medical center Children’s Mercy Kansas City (Mo.).

A story by KSHB-TV described the data: Perpetrators are likely to be between 11 and 15 years old, and nurses are finding that pornography is playing a growing role in these cases: Either a victim is being forced to view the porn, a victim is forced to do something shown in the porn, or a victim is recorded performing a sexual act. “To sexually assault someone else — that’s a learned behavior,” said Heidi Olson, the SANE coordinator at Children’s Mercy.

Dr. Gail Dines, president and CEO of Culture Reframed, said, “These data make apparent the devastating consequences of bringing up children with easy access to free, hardcore porn. As a society, we simply cannot allow our kids to be hijacked by the porn industry.  We call on all those charged with protecting kids to act now to develop policies to prevent kids having access to porn.”

Culture Reframed has created a free, online Parents of Tweens program to guide parents in raising porn-resilient kids.
